Is there a uniquely Jewish approach to leadership? Wouldn’t each of us use the same skills and experiences whether serving on a synagogue board or community hospital?
As Jewish leaders, we have a rich history of textual tradition to assist us in our roles. We share certain values and traditions with Jews all over the world and it informs the work that we do on a daily basis. Yet, it’s often easy to forget that there are thousands of years of Jewish life that shapes the work that we do today.
THE ASSOCIATED’s Center for Community Engagement and Leadership (CCEL) has created a Standards of Leadership document which is a tool to use and share with all professionals and volunteers in the Baltimore Jewish Community. This document reminds us of five core values of Judaism and helps us view our Jewish communal involvement through a Jewish lens. The Standards of Leadership can serve as a springboard for discussion about what it means to be a Jewish leader as well as connect us to the past.
